  1. Chris Paine is a habitual unreliable source about the story of the modern electric car. His story is a fantasy of lies that claim the electric car was ultra practical (a total lie - the car cost 3 times more than an equivalent gasoline vehicle, and could barely reach destination 40 miles away and return home. The battery pack lasted barely 5 years and cost over $20,000, making the EV-1 the most expensive vehicle this side of the M1 main battle tank. And it took 8 hours to recharge, leading to a constant series of complaints from those who leased them. In the critical issues of driving range and recharge time, and excessive cost, the EV-1 was no advancement over the Detroit Electic built 90 years earlier in 1907. Paine’s film is a con man’s journey using carefully selected “satisfied customers”
in an infomercial inspired manner of making a silk purse out of the sow’s ear that was the EV-1. Time recently named the
EV-1 as one of the 50 worst cars ever made. The mystery wasn’t why GM canceled the EV-1 (both Honda and Toyota had already cancelled their electric car programs) - the mystery is why GM ever brought out their “experimental vehicle” in the first place.
