Iraq’s Marsh contains the remains of Sumerian people

Iraq's Marsh (southeastern Iraq) contains the remains of Sumerian people who lived in the marshes more than 5,000 years ago in a similar ecological setting, using similar material resources.

It is believed by archaeologists and anthropologists that The Marshes of Southern Iraq are directly descended from the Sumerians and Babylonians, and that their culture is highly reflective of their ancient ancestors.

The marshes of southern Iraq were the heart of the old kingdom of Sumer, the earliest civilisation in the world.
